February 27th is National Chili Day!If you’re a chili lover this is your day to celebrate by warming up with your favorite style chili recipe. I love learning about what I eat so I did a little research and found that chili has many theories on its origin. Some say it came from a nun named Sister Mary in the 17th century that claimed to have ‘out of body’ experiences that allowed her to travel to faraway places where she brought back this simple stew, and other chili fanatics claim Everrett DeGolyer, a millionaire from Dallas, Texas swore the first concoction of chili was created by Texan cowboys traveling to California. No one will ever know exactly where this spicy stew came from but it is all American like the hot dog. Even celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor was said to have requested ten quarts be flown to her while filming Cleopatra in Rome in the 1960’s. Talk about room service! Well if you’re going to be in the Raleigh area stop by and indulge in West Raleigh Presbyterian Church for their 3rd Annual Chili Cook Off on Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 12:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
